candle-stick-checkerboard
Nerikomi Candlestick Holder | Fern Taylor

Fern Taylor hand-builds each Candle Holder using nerikomi, a traditional Japanese technique of layering coloured clays so the pattern runs all the way through the piece rather than sitting on the surface. Nothing is painted on. Every square of the pattern is clay itself, dyed and worked into natural off-white stoneware, then built up slowly and revealed as the form takes shape.

Finished with a gloss glaze that gives it a soft shine, it holds a single dinner candle and brings a bit of pattern and colour to the table or the mantel. Colourways vary with each batch, so choose from the designs shown.

Because of the nature of nerikomi, no two are ever the same. Your candle holder will be entirely its own, shaped by the unpredictability of the process, which is rather the point.

The details

Hand-built stoneware, nerikomi technique

Original motif by Fern, colourways vary with each batch

Gloss glaze

Holds a standard dinner candle

Approx. 7.5cm wide at the base x 8cm high

Each piece is unique, so yours will vary from the one photographed

Made by Fern Taylor in Deptford, London

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0730/3315/4827/files/Fodder_Fern_Taylor_Ceramics_Candlestick_Holders_Blue_Red_Black_4.jpg?v=1791545401
