Nothing is painted on. Every line and shift of colour is clay itself, dyed and worked into natural off-white stoneware, then built up slowly and revealed as the form takes shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eFern works in small batches, and each one brings new colourways and patterns, from checks to stripes, so what's available changes over time. Fern trained as a painter before moving into ceramics, and you can see it here, in the sense of colour, composition and pattern that runs through everything she makes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe vase is glazed to be watertight, so it holds fresh stems as happily as it stands on its own. Because of the nature of nerikomi, no two are ever the same.
