flora-janne-meijer-ceramics
Flora | Janne Meijer Ceramics

A series of ceramic wall tiles, each with a painted panel depicting an endangered or threatened local wildflower, chosen to draw attention to the fragile biodiversity within our landscapes. For Janne Meijer, their survival reflects hope: the idea that there's still a chance to protect and restore these species in the wild, despite mounting pressure from habitat loss and climate change.

The patterns on the ceramic frames are drawn from Fair Isle knitting and traditional textile stitch charts, connecting craft, nature, preservation and conservation. The work celebrates and cares for the landscape, its wildlife and its heritage alike, and hopes to encourage an appreciation of what exists around us, and why it's worth protecting for future generations.

Pieces (clockwise from top left):

Fritillaria i: carved porcelain frame, crackle glaze, oil paint on panel. 15 x 15 x 1.5cm (£635)

Twinflower ii: porcelain with iron oxide inlay tile, transparent glaze, pencil on panel. 15 x 15cm (£115)

Twinflower i: carved porcelain frame, transparent glaze, oil paint on panel. 22 x 23 x 1.5cm (£550)

Fritillaria ii: stoneware with iron oxide inlay tile, transparent glaze, oil paint on panel. 15 x 15cm (£185)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0730/3315/4827/files/Fodder_Janne_Meijer_Ceramics_Hope_Collection_Flora.jpg?v=1788965333
